Sustaining Youth Participation In Knowledge Production Processes – Journal of Youth, Peace & Security (Issue 2)

By: The Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) Research Network | December 2023 | Reports and Policy Briefs

The Journal of Youth, Peace and Security is edited, peer-reviewed and published by the members of the YPSRN. While the first issue of the Journal was written entirely by YPSRN members, this second issue of the journal was open to submission from young authors who wanted to publish in relation policy, practice and scholarship of youth and peacebuilding.

The YPS Journal’s second issue presents five stories exploring the emerging issues that are sidelined in the traditional, international policymaking processes. Following the example of gender transformative methodologies in knowledge creation, this issue importantly offers a strong analysis on the unique resilience of young women who are resisting oppression in various contexts. The contributors to this journal use diverse methods to bring the voice and agency of young people to the centre of political discussion on the YPS agenda. They use storytelling to share their own experiences working with people impacted by armed conflict; sharing how they implement peacebuilding programs in challenging contexts, how they interact with their young and ambitious peers, and how they memorise and draw from previous peace processes. Their insights also uncover the emerging connection between the YPS agenda and issues around the international drug prevention regime and environmental protection. In short, the issue is a testimony to the transformative agency of youth countering the exclusionary practices applied in the broader peacebuilding field.
